I sincerely thank you for visiting us, and I take considerable pride in introducing our university to you.

Soongsil University, the first 4-year Christian college in Korea, was established in Pyongyang on October 10, 1897.
The school's founding ideas are 'truth and service,' and its educational goal is to foster talented men and women, who will, in Christian spirit, use their newly gained knowledge and state-of-the-art technology as a tool for pursuing peace and prosperity of our country and the world.

During the Japanese colonization of Korea, Soongsil, commonly acknowledged as a college of the Korean people, was the guardian of the national conscience and pride, producing numerous national leaders who fought for our nation's independence with their lives.

Soongsil even had to be closed in 1938 due to the pressure from the colonial government. Three of the thirty-three people who signed the Declaration of Independence were Soongsilians;
many Soongsilians, including Manshik Cho, led independence movements such as the famous '101 People Incident.' Other illustrious Soongsil graduates are:  Iktae Ahn, the composer of our national anthem;
Jamyung Hyun and Taejoon Park, pioneers in Korean modern music;
Dongjin Kim, the composer of 'Kagopa'; Nakjoon Paik, Myungson Kim, Kichun Yoo, Leewook Chang, and Sungshik Kim, leaders in Korean education;
Hyunseung Kim, Kyucho Kim, and Soonwon Hwang, well-known literary figures.  Recently, Soongsil has dedicated a memorial hall on campus to Rev. Kyungjik Hahn, a leading figure in the Christian community not only in Korea but also in the whole world.
The Rev. Kyungjik Hahn's Memorial Hall pays a tribute of praise to Rev. Hahn, reminding us of his love, faith, integrity, and service. 

Today, Soongsil University comprises 8 graduate schools and 8 colleges, where approximately 12, 000 students are receiving quality education from our excellent and dedicated faculty.
There are around 20 research institutes at Soongsil, where both our faculty and students are actively engaged in research in the areas of humanities, social sciences, engineering, communication and information systems, etc.
Research activities in information/communication, production technology, business venture support, retraining of laid-off workers, etc. are especially active and bringing positive results for both industry and academia working in partnership. 

Recently, Soongsil has been the focus of much attention and envy due to its remarkable growth in the field of information sciences; in fact, we are rated the best university in Korea in information sciences.
The Graduate School of Small Business is the first of its kind in Korea, and it has made a great contribution to reviving small business in Korea and to nurturing future entrepreneurs. 
Soongsil University, based on its solid foundation and proud legacy, is well-prepared to become a prestigious Christian university, committed to fostering new leaders of the 21st century.
