Architecture is a field which studies the components of a desirable physical
shape and living space for humans. Searching for artistic qualities and
practical considerations at the same time, architecture combines art and
technology. Modern architecture emphasizes comprehensive training in both
artistic and technical areas.
This department offers a diversified program in which students learn
how to find the right balance between the ideal and the real, theory and
practice, part and whole, and individual and society. Students also learn
to understand the multifaceted, changing nature of the architect's role
in society and to put it into historical perspective.
In order to achieve the aforementioned goals, this department emphasizes
objectivity, diligence, and openness, constantly evaluating and improving
its policies and functions.
The Department of Architectural Engineering at Soongsil University was
established in 1981 and admited its first students in 1982. As of March,
1995, the department produced 307 graduates through 12 graduations. Currently,
there are 212 students enrolled in the department: 184 undergraduate students
and 28 (including 14 in the Graduate School of Industry) students in Master's
degree program. The department has 5 professors and 17 instructors.
The department, since its inception, has offered a balanced curriculum
of design and actual building technology, combining the best aspects of
domestic and foreign curricula. The current curriculum , a product of
constant revision and modification, is truly creative and unique.
