DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS
The primary educational goal of the Department of Econmics is to nurture professionals who are equipped with knowledge in both theoretical and applied economics and who will find careers in business or government.

To prepare students for the age of information and globalization, the curriculum focuses on the following:

1. Promotion of Soongsil's founding ideas - truth and service - by teaching truth (knowledge) and instilling in students the spirit of service for society; 2. Education geared to produce professional economists with high integrity and ability;("Pledge of Honor as an Economist":I, , hereby pledge to God that, to the best of my ability, I will protect Soongsil's reputation and pride by devoting myselt to studying and by refusing to compromise with any illicit behavior.") 3. Rigorous training in foreign language(s), computers, and practical application of theories to real situations; 4. Aggressive career guidance from the first day of school until graduation, helping students to select from diverse career fields.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The primary educational goal of the Department of Commerce is to produce professionals who will plan and carry out various tasks involving international trade and other economic exchanges.

According to Christian spirit of truth and service, our department promotes true scholarship and practical application of knowledge for the benefit of the society.

Korea relies heavily on trade to maintain its productivity, income, employment, and economic stability and growth. For its economic stability and continued development, it is crucial that Korea increase the international trade or transfer of products, services, resources, capital, and technology. Recently, there has been a huge increase in production and investment in foreign countries by Korean corportations. In order to meet the expectations and demands of the society, our department offers a challenging and exciting curriculum which provides a wide selection of courses in individual, corporate, and government trade, preparing students for various career options.

While fostering specialists in international trade, the curriculum emphasizes the importance of the comprehensive foundation of economic theories, thus enabling students to keep the big picture in mind when conducting their work in their own fields . For students who do not wish to major in trade, the department also provides some courses in education and other areas related to trade.

DIVISION OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The Division of Business Administration at Soongsil University, established in 1996, consists of 3 separate but related departments: business administration, accounting, and small business. The first two produced over 3,000 graduates with a Bachelors, Master's , or Doctorate degree. The Department of Small Business, a new comer, has become Soongsil's proud asset in a short time. The division strives to provide the best training ground for future managers, who will serve the nation and the international community with competence and sincerity. The division's future-oriented programs offer the following:

1. Student-oriented, flexible curriculum: Students can concentrate their study on one of the three areas (business administration, accounting, and small business) and choose a wide variety of other courses offered in the division. Some of the courses unique to the division are: entrepreneurship , management of venture business, diagnostics of small business, etc., which are offered only at Soongsil.

2. Nurturing of Scholarship and Ability

The curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation of basic principles and theories of business administraion. At the same time, it emphasizes practical training, creer opportunites, and a competitive edge: students are constantly exposed to the case method, business games, group study, seminars, field trips, etc., which provide them with real life experiences. Such training reflects Soongsil's long tradition of teaching practical science.

3. Preparation for Golbalized and Information-Oriented Community

The curriculum includes computer training and English conversation as general course requirements. Elective courses like business English, international business management, international marketing, international trade, etc., are all part of the division's effort to globalize its students. Business and computers, business information systems, business games, etc. are information-related courses. Some of the elective courses are taught in English.

4. Professional Licenses

The curriculum is designed to provide students a comprehensive foundation on knowledge in business adminstraion and its related fields and to prepare them for taking licensing examinations in those fields. In addition to regular courses, the devision offers counseling and prepcourses for the exams. Licenses are required of certified public accountants, tax accountants, certified labor specialists, and small business management consultants.

5. Graduate and Research Programs

In graduate programs, the division is further specialized and divided into financial management, marketing, personnel and organizational management, production/management science, financial accounting, operational accounting, and small business. Such specialization enables students to study these fields in depth and acquire up-to-date knowledge, which will lead them to futher research and development.
