Soongsil University is a pioneer in computer education: it established the Department of Computing in 1970, the first such department in Korea. Since then, the University has greatly contributed to the development of Korean information industry through productive research and talented graduates. In 1994, four computer-related departments were combined to create the Division of Computing; in 1995 the division was expanded and restructured to create the College of Information Sciences.

The Division of Computing is part of the College of informaton Sciences. It offers students a challenging opportunity to receive a broad range of education in computers. It also supports group research projects carried out by teams of faculty and graduate students. To ensure high academic standards, the division has secured 30 excellent faculty members and its own building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The division strives to make the Co11ege of Information Sciences at Soongsil the best in the nation by the year 2,000. The College of Information Sciences at Soongsil University will play a central role in the 21st century, the age of information.
